Sponsored by Spotify & Luminary. WNYC Studios is the producer of other leading podcasts, including Radiolab, Death, Sex & Money, Nancy and many more.
"Hi Julie,
Thank you so much for sharing your podcast pitch with WNYC Studios. This was such a hard decision to make given the strength of all the finalists this year. Though we decided to pass on Bloomer Girls, we wanted to take a moment to tell you what resonated with us.
First off, we found the pitch and the idea super original and exciting. A scripted, fictionalized telling of the unknown women heroes of baseball -- that’s something that would catch anyone’s eyes (or ears). You are also so knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, that you made us passionate in your telling. You clearly know how to grab an audience.
The challenge for us is that we aren’t immersed in the fiction landscape, and are unlikely to dip into that space. We want to hear this show and believe it could be a huge success, we’re just not sure we’re the right partner for you. We’re happy to introduce you to some people at other networks who are doing fiction and are doing it well, if you’re interested.
In the meantime, best of luck -- we want to hear this show!
Paula, Kathy, Rebeca, Arwa"
Highlights from the Festival: Pitching Paula Szuchman (VP of New Show Development, WNYC Studios) and the amazing personal feedback I received for Bloomer Girls.
Honorable Mention(s):
An entertainment attorney, talent manager and film executive take the stage and give a talk about the podcast-to-tv/film pipeline and the importance of original podcast IPs. And (shown above) an interview with the creator of BoJack Horseman.
