In March of 1610, Galileo Galilei published a short astronomical treatise - or pamphlet - based on observations he made through a telescope, containing the results of his early findings including the hundreds of newly discovered stars in the Milky Way and the moons that appeared to be circling around Jupiter.

He called this pamphlet, The Starry Messenger.

One of my most favorite lines from The Starry Messenger, retold, by author Peter Sis (1997):

“In every age there are courageous people who break with tradition to explore new ideas and challenge accepted truths… Through his telescope he brought the stars down to earth for everyone to see. By changing the way people saw the galaxy, Galileo was also changing the way they saw themselves and their place in the universe. He had turned the world upside down.”
