The Pandemic & The CLE Indians
The owner of Evergreen Podcasts is Joan Dolan, the daughter of Larry Dolan (MLB Owner the Cleveland Indians/Guardians). We were able to watch ball games from the owner's suite at Progressive Field. It was an awesome experience and a dream come true for me!
Joan was podcasting before podcasts were a thing. She had a love for audio storytelling and started Novel Conversations in her attic in the 90's. She would publish episodes on Saturday nights on a local radio station. She was truly ahead of the curve. So when podcasting became popular around 2015/16, Joan started The Front Porch People and hired a small crew to continue to produce and monetize her shows. We eventually rebranded the company to Evergreen Podcasts and added about 6 more in-house originals along with branded content for local businesses. The Podcast Boom was in full swing and we were cruising pretty well until the pandemic hit, which really put a damper on things :(
During the summer of 2020, the company decided (for safety purposes) to close down the studio due to the pandemic. I was able to stay on for about another year remotely recording and editing, but soon started my own freelance remote recording gig: Blue Star Productions, LLC. I currently work part-time in production, depending on my client load.
I do look back fondly at this experience and would like to thank Joan for her belief in me for giving me the opportunity to work for her company. Without my three in half years at Evergreen Podcasts, I would have never fallen in love with audio storytelling.
